The President of the National Assembly, Professor Vital KAMERHE leads a strong delegation of Congolese parliamentarians including Rapporteur Jacques Djoli to CAN THO, in Vietnam as part of the meeting of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) and the Conferenceparliamentary on French-speaking cooperation in sustainable agriculture and food security

To this end, After taking part in the opening ceremony of the meeting of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie, on Wednesday January 22, 2025, Professor Vital KAMERHE, accompanied by his delegation, had discussions with the delegation Vietnamese led by the Presidentof the National Assembly Trân Thanh Mân.

As an introduction to this meeting, the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament conveyed the greetings of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix-Antoine TSHISEKEDI to the Vietnamese President, Lương Cường.

During these fruitful exchanges, Vital KAMERHE pleaded for the strengthening of cooperation between the DRC and VIETNAM, whose economic prowess he praised.

“How can we not salute the greatness of the Vietnamese People and take our hats off for the respect we owe to this People who, still in the mid-seventies, were under war, but today the VIÊTNAM that we are discovering, for me, it is a Country which appears in the circle of Countriesdeveloped.”, affirmed President Vital KAMERHE.

According to the Speaker of the Lower House of the Congolese Parliament, the DRC, currently a victim of Rwandan aggression, can use the Vietnamese model to develop its economy.

“Our desire to strengthen cooperation between our two countries, through their respective parliaments, cannot be in any doubt, because, due to the configuration of our country, agriculture and industrial processing as well as energy must be at the center of the development ofCongo. And in this sector, we have a lot of experience to learn from VIETNAM, following the visit we made today, if only in the production and processing of rice, fruits, vegetables and many other cultures that we discovered today withgreat admiration.”, added Professor Vital KAMERHE.

The President of the National Assembly also requested the sending of a multidisciplinary delegation from VIETNAM to the DRC with a view to sharing experiences and expertise. Professor Vital KAMERHE reiterated the desire of the President of the Republic Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo and the Congolese Government to make agriculture a real engine of development. “The DRC has more than 80 million arable lands”, he said. he recalled.

Concerning the security aspect, the President of the National Assembly, Vital KAMERHE said he was obliged to interrupt his mission to VIETNAM to pay particular attention to the security situation which is further deteriorating because of “the unjust war imposed by Rwanda” inthe eastern part of the country with today’s consequences of more than ten million deaths and more than 7 million displaced people. He requested support from VIETNAM at the international level to restore peace and security in this part of the country.

“In this context, we need the support of VIETNAM; not to go to war in the Congo, but to make the voice of the DRC heard in International Bodies, starting with the United Nations.” said President Vital KAMERHE

In order to strengthen diplomatic cooperation between the two Nations, Professor Vital KAMERHE expressed the wish to see the establishment of an Embassy of VIETNAM in Kinshasa and that of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Hanoi. A proposal to which the President of the National Assembly of VIETNAM said he was in favor, promising to transmit it with all his support to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Vietnamese side also said it was in favor of “win-win” cooperation with the DRC in all of the above sectors and many others.
The two Personalities also agreed on the establishment of a friendship group between their respective parliaments.

Also responding to the problem of the war in the East of the DRC, the President of the National Assembly of VIETNAM spoke out in favor of a peaceful solution by condemning all the killings suffered by the Congolese population for several decades because of this endless warwhich slows down its development.

As a reminder, the work of the Conference and the Meeting of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie organized since Tuesday January 21, 2025 focused on sustainable agriculture, food security and the response to climate change.
