DRC Kinshasa: Minister of Outside Shops: Julien Paluku: similarity of the history of China to that of today’s DRC (its X Minister Julien Paluku account)

I. Similar facts

At the Foundation of the People’s Republic of #chine in 1949, the life of the Chinese was characterized by great political instability, generalized poverty and a deeply unequal society.

  1. There were many local warlords controlling different regions and therefore an absence of a strong and unified central government;
  2. In 1920 there was a civil war that devastated the country with an enormous impact on the population.
  3. China has undergone many foreign invasions, notably from Japan (Nankin massacre in 1937). Wars and conflicts had strongly damaged the country’s infrastructure;
  4. The company was strongly laminate because a small elite would thrive while the vast majority of the population lived in extreme misery;
  5. Basic services such as education, health, transport were limited or nonexistent. The educational system was based on the memorization and authority of the master;
  6. In 1950, China was one of the poorest countries in the world.
    In short, the life of the Chinese was marked by great fragility and generalized sufferings due to a combination of political factors (civil wars, warlords, foreign interference), economic (extreme poverty, famines) and social (deep inequalities)

II. China’s decision in the face of these facts

From Mao Zedong (or Mao Tse-Toung) to Deng Xiaoping.
Mao is recognized as the founding figure of the People’s Republic of China with initiatives such as agrarian reform, industrialization on the Soviet model, the cultural revolution. In short, Mao Zedong managed to unify China and laid the foundations for a centralized state.
Mao led China from 1949 to his death on September 09, 1976, or 27 years old.
Little known by many of us RdCongolais, #DENG #Xiaoping is widely considered as the main architect of China’s dazzling economic development. He led China from 1978 to 1989 (11 years old) but he retained a significant influence until his death in 1997.
Deng Xiaoping’s approach was pragmatic that can be summed up by its famous sentence: “It doesn’t matter whether the cat is white or black, as long as it grabs the mice”.
This simply meant that economic efficiency primaled over ideological purity.
The main actions of President Deng Xiaoping extended to those of Xi Jinping today, can be summarized in this, to initiate the development of China:

  1. Removal of agricultural taxes, which lightened the farmers’ financial burden and relaunching agriculture to feed the population. Total suppression intervened in 2006;
  2. Economic opening and creation of special economic zones like #Shenzhen, #Zhuhai, #Xiamen and #Shantoy). This has attracted foreign investments, technology and management knowledge through favorable tax policies.
  3. Massive investments in infrastructure (roads, bridges, water and electricity approval systems) to open up rural regions and have their interconnection;
  4. Encouragement of private companies and entrepreneurship, this released the individual initiative by creating several jobs;
  5. The reform of state companies. Some have been authorized to go bankrupt and others simply privatized;
  6. Deng ended the isolation of China by strengthening trade and cultural ties with the world. This made it possible to import technologies and essential capital to development;
  7. Development of science and education. An emphasis was placed on the training of managers, technicians and managers. Research programs have been launched.

And the Chinese miracle occurred and continues with Xi Jinping because between 1979 and 2010, China’s GDP increased on average by 10% per year.
And from then on China has become a major player in low -cost global manufacturing production, which earned it the nickname “world factory”.

DRC! Same story, same defis, same potential, same human richness,
It is therefore possible, the dream is allowed, just start.

My observation as a researcher: when the Chinese got angry with poverty and glaring precariousness, they did not take up arms to kill each other, but they went through courageous reforms.
And everything started from there.

Knowing how to choose between ideological purity and economic efficiency is the challenge.

Everyone can do their comparative analysis with other countries.
Admittedly, there is no standard development model but there are standard inspirations.
