This is what Ghazaly noted in a press release received this Friday, January 17, 2025, in our editorial staff at the second Continental Consultative Dialogue Summit of the Union of African Youth on the theme: “Redefining the youth development system in Africa for astronger and more inclusive participation: building strong institutions to secure the Africa we want”, in Accra, GHANA.

To this end, Anthropologist Hassan Ghazaly represents Egypt at the Second Continental Consultative Dialogue Summit of the African Youth Union, as President of the Peace Council and; expert in youth, sport and culture, and former member of the executive board of the Youth UnionAfrican Union Security Africans; During his interventions, he highlighted the urgent need to strengthen the capacities of young Africans in the areas of peace and security, emphasizing the importance of specialized studies to support the efforts of the African Unionin this area. he also addressed main areas such as support for climate justice and the energy transition for sustainable solutions, the granting of 30% of elected and appointed positions to young people, and their involvement in leadership roles. peacebuilding and decision-makingdecision.

Discussions also focused on monitoring the implementation of national action plans on youth, peace and security, as well as the promotion of human rights and justice for young people. by highlighting the central role of the center as an expert and president of the network of African think tanks.   he also highlighted the pioneering role of the Egyptian government in Africa, notably as chair of the African Union Peace and Security Council. He added that the Nasser International Forum constitutes a global platform led by young Africans , aiming tostrengthen the institutional capacities of young people, and requested that this role be included in the final recommendations regarding the Cairo Center and the Forum.
Ghazaly specified that the summit adopted several discussions on strengthening the role of youth councils and networks through the activation of national youth councils, in accordance with article 12 of the African Youth Charter, and on the ways to facilitate the exchange ofknowledge and experiences between these councils. In his bilateral meetings, Ghazaly insisted on the need to strengthen cooperation with the Egyptian government in the areas of youth, peace and security, while emphasizing the importance of tyingstrategic partnerships with African governments with institutional expertise, to achieve the African youth agenda
He made recommendations and proposals to the general secretariat of the Union:

  • Cooperation with the Egyptian government is essential to achieve the African youth agenda and strengthen peace capacities on the continent;
  • the role of leader Gamal Abdel Nasser’s scholarship in strengthening the capacities of young Africans;   – Strengthening strategic partnerships with African governments is key to the success of the youth agenda on the continent;
  • To mandate the Cairo Center for Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution to conduct an in-depth continental study on youth, peace and security;

At the same time, he stressed the importance of ensuring equal opportunities in the management of the African Youth Union between the different African regions, by adopting a rotation system for the presidency and the general secretariat.

Ghazaly concluded his participation by calling on African youth for unity and collective work to achieve the vision of a united and strong continent. He highlighted the importance of leveraging youth platforms to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between future generations. He also thanked the Kingdom of Morocco and the Ghanaian government for their initiatives in favor of African youth, while welcoming the efforts of the Egyptian State in empowering young people as a central axis of development efforts and consolidation of the peace in Africa.

This summit brought together more than 200 participants, including youth leaders, representatives of national youth councils, coordination mechanisms, regional platforms, civil society organizations, as well as youth ministers and partners. ofregional and international development.

On the sidelines of the summit, a visit was organized for participants to the museum of the late leader Kwame Nkrumah, one of the main historical monuments of Ghana. This visit aimed to raise participants’ awareness of the historical and activist legacy of Nkrumah, a key figure in African liberation, and to strengthen the common awareness of young Africans on the values ​​of shared struggle and their role in building the future. of the continent.

The summit saw the participation of numerous representatives of organizations and institutions active in the field of youth and development across the continent, such as: the African Scout Committee, the African YOFILM Organization, the Nasser International Forum, the Commission of theAfrican Youth, COMESA Youth Council, Commonwealth Students Association, Central African Youth Advisory Council, East African Community Youth Ambassadors Platform, Elevate Trust Foundation, the National Council ofthe youth of Malawi, the Young Organization for Sustainable Peace in Togo (PTP), the AfriYAN network, among others.
Participating countries included: Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Egypt, Eswatini, Ethiopia , Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi,Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
